Ghanaians on social media have criticised Carlos Ahenkorah, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, for visiting a voter registration centre with full knowledge that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Mr Ahenkorah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Tema West, has granted a number of Radio and TV interviews where he admitted that he had tested for COVID-19 and also justified his actions.
According to him, he only went to the registration centre to check on an issue and he did not mingle with people. He also claimed that he was “careful” because he adhered to all the social distancing and health protocols, implying that he did not put anyone at risk.
His action has been condemned by Ghanaians, as some people have called on President Akufo-Addo to “fire him from government.”
Others described him as “dishonourable” and “irresponsible” as they indicated that he should have known and done better as a leader.
