The CEO of the Forestry Commission Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John has passed away.
He reportedly died after contracting COVID-19.
Though Sir John is a well known politician and he will be remembered for many things, one thing stands tall – the quote “fear delegates.”
These days, the quote ‘fear delegates’ is paraded around anytime an election is over. It is used as a tease phrase to whip the losing candidates.
In 2014, Sir John famously said “Fear delegates, not ghosts” when he lost a General Secretary election to Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) held a Delegates’ Conference in Tamale to elect executives for the party.
Sir John was the incumbent General Secretary and he was being challenged by Kwabena Agyapong.
After the election, Sir John obtained 1,960 votes that wasn’t enough to keep his position. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong obtained 2,520.
After suffering such awful defeat, that was when he uttered those words – “Fear delegates, not ghosts.”
