2010 World Cup: Relive Ghana’s Outstanding Victory Over USA

Ten years ago today, Ghana qualified to the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after beating the United States of America in the round of 16.

Reaching the quarterfinals was a huge success for Ghana, considering that it was the country’s second appearance at a senior World Cup competition.

Ghana failed to progress from the round 16 in its first World Cup appearancce in Germany in 2006. The Black Stars lost to Brazil by 3-0.

However, in the round of 16 World Cup game against the USA in South Africa, the Black Stars were relentless and they defeated the USMNT by 2-1.

Kevin-Prince Boateng scored the first goal of the game for Ghana after 5 minutes of kick-off. Landon Donovan equalised for the USA in 62nd minute from the penalty spot, and Asamoah Gyan won the game for Ghana with a beautiful strike in extra time.
