Flamboyant Nigerian billionaire Ramon Olorunwa Abbas also known as Hushpuppi was arrested by agents of the FBI and Dubai Police in Dubai. Hushpuppi was arrested alongside his close friend and alleged accomplice, Woodberry from their home in Dubai.
The arrest was the result of months of investigation by the FBI following a fraudulent deal that involved Hushpuppi and his crew, they were said to have collected some money from the USA.
In the video released by the Dubai Police. They claim to have been tracking Hushpuppi for close to 4 months using his Instagram to track his whereabouts in an Operation dubbed; “Fox Hunt 2”
The Police conducted 6 raids simultaneously whiles the suspects were sleeping. Hushpuppi was arrested on multiple fraud charges for crimes committed in different parts of the world. Due to his flamboyant lifestyle on social media, the Police were able to track his every move and taking notes of all his social media activities. According to the Dubai Police, Hushpuppi and his team were known for creating fake pages for existing websites in order to redirect victims’ payments to their own accounts. The Dubai Police also found that the gang specialized in hacking corporate emails and sending fake messages to clients in order to redirect financial transfers and people’s bank details to their own accounts.
Hushpuppi and his team were responsible for scams amounting to 1.6 Billion Dirhams (over 2 Billion Ghana Cedis). In the operation the police discovered 21 laptops, 47 smartphones, 15 Flashdrives and 5 hard drives. Hushpuppi bought over 13 cars amounting to 25 Million Dollars.
According to the Commander-in-Chief Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri: The arrest of ‘Hushpuppi’,’Woodberry’ & 10 gang members involved in money laundry & cyber fraud activities, is another achievement added to the proud record of Dubai police in ensuring the emirate’s security and safety.
