Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford is getting a lot of praise and applauds on Twitter for pressuring the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his government to make a U-turn over free school meals for vulnerable children during the summer holidays.
The UK government had initially rejected the plea by Rashford to continue to provide vulnerable children with meals during the coronavirus pandemic.
Rashford, who is 22-years-old, did not give up after his plea was rejected. He kept on campaigning and now, the UK government has accepted his plea and will extend the free school meal voucher scheme through a £120m Summer Food Fund.
The plan is to provide 1.3 million children in England with a six week food voucher.
Responding to the UK government’s U-turn over the free school meals, Marcus Rashford posted on Twitter saying: “I don’t even know what to say. Just look at what we can do when we come together, THIS is England in 2020.”
A lot of Twitter users, including Ghanaians on the site, have applauded the United star for fighting for vulnerable school children in England.
