Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus Nominated For 2020 Golden Boy Award

Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has been shortlisted for the 2020 Golden Boy award.

The 19-year-old was shortlisted alongside talented youngsters like Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland, Alphonso Davies, Ansu Fati and Gabriel Martinelli.

Kudus plays as a forward for FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga. He has been one of the club’s best players this season, scoring 9 goals in 21 appearances for FC Nordsjaelland.

He joined FC Nordsjaelland from Right To Dream Academy in Ghana on January 1, 2018, and featured for their under-19 side before gaining promotion to the senior team six months later.

Kudus was part of the Black Starlets team which reached the second round of the Under-17 World Cup in India in 2017. He also scored on his Black Stars debut in a 2021 AFCON qualifier against South Africa at the Cape Coast Stadium on November 14, 2019.

The Golden Boy award is given to the most impressive young footballer playing in Europe during a calendar year. All nominees are under the age of 21.

Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport came up with the award in 2003. The first player to win it was Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.

Other winners of the award include Lionel Messi (2005), Mario Balotelli (2010), Paul Pogba (2013), and Kylian Mbappe (2017)

The current holder of the award is Atletico Madrid and Portugal forward João Félix.
