Here’s What We Know About The Legendary Nana Tuffour

Nana Tuffour

James Kwaku Tuffour who was known in show business as Nana Tuffour or 9-9-2-4 was born on Valentine’s Day in 1954.

He was 66 years old when he passed today.

He grew up in Kumasi where he reportedly fell in love with music due to the influence of his family.

He kicked off his musical journey with keyboardist Alex Konadu.

He later joined the Wanto Wazuri Band as a pianist. Due to his voice and unique style of vocalizing, Nana later became the front man of the Waza Africo Band. Envisioning a solo album, Nana left for Nigeria where he began working with famous Nigerian musician King Sunny Ade as his keyboardist.

In 1979 he released his first album Highlife Romance and has since released twelve other hit albums.

He has 15 albums to his credit.

He has won many excellence awards and his last album, Abeiku was notoriously popular among the old and the young.

A countless number of Nana Tuffour’s songs were recorded at Bodo Staiger’s Rheinklang studio in Duesseldorf, where also many other highlife stars from Ghana had produced their hits.
