The collage of visuals and stories that is Justice League 2017 left a sore taste in mouths of fans. The movie was released to a highly critical reception. After that, it seemed DC had reached the end of its attempt at a shared superhero universe similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, earlier this year DC fans received some good news. After years of online movements, and appeals for the rumoured Snyder Cut, Warner Brothers finally listened. The Snyder Cut of the Justice League is expected to release some time in 2021.
As the original cast returns to work on the movie in order to get it presentable, it raises a question for fans. That is, will Ben Affleck and Henry Caville return to their roles as Batman and Superman respectively?
Although Robert Pattinson has been cast as Batman in Matt Reeve’s trilogy, that movie is not in a shared universe with Wonder Woman, Aquaman and the other stand-alone DC movies. In fact, there are currently two active versions of the Joker (Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix) in DC’s cinematic universe.
In an interview with YouTuber DeWayne Hamby, Ben Affleck addresses whether or not he would like to reprise his role as Batman.
“Yeah, that’s not the kind of… I had an opportunity to write and direct and star in a standalone Batman, and it happend in a point in my life when I lost interest in those stories.I’ll go see Robert [Pattinson]’s [movie]. I think it’s gonna be great. He’s great. But [The Way Back] is the kind of story I’m interested in telling now.”
