The unfortunate killing of unarmed blackman George Floyd by police officers in Mineapplis has sparked outrage in the United States and around the world.
It is the latest case of black men losing their lives just because of the color of their skin.
The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan has released a statement on the passing of George Floyd.
“The killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020, has filled with grief the hearts of Americans, Ghanaians and people around the world,” she said.
“We join in expressing our outrage as well as our condolences to Mr Floyd’s family and friends,” she added.
The incident is promoting important and necessary conversations in the United States and serves as a reminder of the importance of confronting painful truths head-on, and of addressing the underlying conditions and existing systems that perpetuate racial injustice as we, as American, strive to form a more perfect union,” she continued.
In many ways, her statement contradicts the position of Donald Trump’s government that has been accused of inciting tensions amid the protests.
