“Don’t Take It Out Of Context”: Becca Replies Critics

Becca, Ghanaian singer and songwriter

Becca has replied Ghanaians, including some celebrities who called her out for a statement she made on Twitter about racism and tribalism.

In her tweet, she referred to Ghanaians as hypocrites.

According to her, the Ghanaians who are protesting against racism are the same people who criticise others for marrying people from other African countries.

“You are here in Africa fighting and advocating racism in the US but in your church/home, you are criticizing and judging someone for marrying a fellow African because they are not from your hometown/country/church… Damn Hypocrites!!!,” her tweet read.

Her fellow celebrities including Ama K Abebrese and Lydia Forson reacted to her tweet and advised her not to diminish the protests against racism.

Becca now claims her critics did not understand the message in her tweet.

In her reply, she stated:

“Racism affects all of us disregarding the colour of our skin. As Africans, one of our biggest history is racism and it’s time we put this to an end.”

“However, as Africans back home, what are we doing to combat xenophobia, tribalism, nepotism and common differences? So my earlier tweet should not be out of context.”

“The racial killings, police brutality, rape, bullying and all forms of violence still going on around the world is very disgraceful to say the least and we all as humans being not just as black and white must empathize because it concerns us all.”
