Isaac Asiamah, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has revealed that an estimated amount of GHC60,000 will be incurred to host a single game if the Ghana Premier League returns in the COVID-19 period.
Isaac Asiamah disclosed this at a COVID-19 media briefing on June 3, 2020. The brief was held to announce the measures that have been put in place in accordance with a phased relaxation of some COVID-19 restrictions by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to the Sports Minister, the estimated amount was generated after the Ministry had discussions with the National Sports Authority and the Ghana Football Association on the possibility of playing Ghana Premier League games behind closed doors.
He also revealed that they discussed regular COVID-19 testing of players and club staff, which also contributed to the estimated amount.
Mr Asiamah, however, added that they are still having discussions on the issue. He also stated that football will not return until they are sure that they can manage COVID-19 while playing games.
