#BlackOutTuesday: African Footballers Show Support For Black Lives Matter Movement

African footballers have joined the the online protest against racism and injustice.

A lot of them are participating in the #BlackOutTuesday online protest which seeks to condemn the inhumane treatment meted out to Black People in the United States of America.

Protests have taken place in major cities in the US following the death of George Floyd – an African-American man. Floyed died on May 25, 2020, in Minneapolis after a white police officer knelt on his neck.

On Sunday, May 31, 2020, Borussia Dortmund’s Moroccan defender, Achraf Hakimi staged his campaign against racism in a Bundesliga game against SC Paderborn. He crossed his fists in the air in a sign for justice after scoring in the 84th minute, while also lifting his jersey to reveal ‘Justice for George Floyd’ handwritten on his vest.

More African footballers have also joined the support for the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Ghanaian footballers including Michael Essien, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew and Afriyie Acquah are among the African stars who participated in the #BlackOutTuesday online protest.
