“By June De3”: How Prez Akufo-Addo Changed The Narrative

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The phrase “By June De3” became one of the most used phrases by Ghanaians on Twitter after the outbreak of COVID-19 in The country.

Whenever the cases rampantly increased, people tweeted the phrase which eventually turned into a whole conversation on Twitter.

The “By June De3” phrase was used by Twitter users to imply that by the month of June, things would have become very bad for Ghana and everyone would have been infected and killed by the disease.

Well, we are in June now and we are glad that nothing of that sort has happened, even though the cases keep rising.

Ghana’s total case count increased to 8070 with 2,947 recoveries and 36 deaths as at May 31, 2020.

However, President Akufo-Addo, during his tenth address to the nation on COVID-19, announced a phased relaxation of restrictions that were imposed to curb the spread of the disease in the country.

President Akufo-Addo in his address ordered for schools to reopen for final year JHS, SHS and university students.

This announcement by the President sparked “By June De3” tweets again, but this time, it had a different meaning.

While most people were tweeting the phrase, thinking Ghana would be destroyed by COVID-19 by June, it now turns out that “By June De3, all final year students are to go back to school”.

As this tweet reads, the “By June De3” phrase was for final years.
