The Dean of Students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra has rejected a fresh proposal for the conduct of the 2020 SRC and Departmental elections.

The Electoral Commission of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) had submitted a proposal outlining a new Electoral Calendar for the conduct of the elections.
The electoral processes were to start on Monday leading to an election in the second week of September as scheduled on the new time table.
The proposal was drafted by the SRC EC boss, Appoh Papulius with the sanction of the departmental electoral commissioners.

But the Dean of Students, Mawuli K. Feglo has thrown out what he described as a “well-thought-through proposal.”
The Dean reasoned that because the actual end of the coronavirus pandemic cannot be predicted with certainty, the electoral processes should not start in the first place.

“However, no one can actually predict correctly when the first semester will begin. Whatever the period, you will be invited to conduct the elections when you are available and approved by management during that semester to do so,” Mr Feglo said in the letter.
The Dean of Students went ahead to ask for the sale of nomination forms among others to be halted.

“The process for the SRC elections being the sale of nomination forms, vetting and the like will all take place during the first semester,” Mr Feglo said.
He added: “It is inappropriate committing aspiring SRC executives financially presently by selling nomination forms to them.”
