Nana Ansah Kwao IV, the Chief of Akwamu Adumasa has been accused of promoting classism and elitism after he advocated for free vocational training instead of free senior high school.
The chief, who is a media personality and also married to fellow media personality, Gifty Anti, argued that government should not pay for people to study arts and other courses.
In an interview with Kweku Sintim-Misa, the Chief said government’s money should not be used to pay for people to study arts programmes especially when most of them end up unemployed.
He said if that money was used to help them study a vocational skill to the very highest level, they would be able to secure a job for themselves and even create employment opportunities for others.
He said, if people want to study other courses, then they should be made to pay.
Ghanaians took to Twitter to react to the video and accused him of promoting rich people agenda and encouraging the idea that poor people should not aspire to become doctors, lawyers and other intellectual professionals.
Others were also sympathetic of the views Nana Ansah Kwao IV shared.
It should be noted that students in Secondary Technical senior high schools are also benefiting from Free SHS irrespective of the course of study.
