In times of crisis, the heroes are those who are staring in the face of adversity and willing to put their own lives at risk to save others.

In this coronavirus pandemic – the frontline workers have been exactly that. Some, have made the ultimate sacrifice and passed away by catching the virus while in the line of duty.

In Ghana, we have had healthcare workers contract the virus and at least one nurse has also passed away after contracting the virus

In the United Kingdom, Ghanaians are also helping with the coronavirus fight.

Among them is Desmond Demoah Asare, who cleans covid-19 wards at a hospital in London.

In an interview with the BBC, Desmond said the work of cleaners at the hospital is also vital in the fight against covid-19.

“We clean to reduce the infection. If I don’t clean more people will be infected,” he said.

Though he admitted that he was initially afraid to work in the ward, he believed that he also had a role to play.

“If I don’t come who is going to care about the patient?” he asked.

“If the doctors give medication and we don’t clean to reduce the infection, they haven’t done anything,” he added.

Desmond has not caught the virus and we hope he keeps safe.
