Kaywa, CEO of Highly Spiritual Music

Ghanaian musician, Mr Drew has been receiving backlash since it emerged that video streaming platform, YouTube had removed his song over copyright complaints.

The official music video of his song, Eat, featuring Stonebwoy has been taken down by YouTube over copyright claims.

The visuals of Mr Drew’s Eat was taken down after Empire, Rotimi’s record label, made copyright claims to the content.

“This video contains content from EMPIRE, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds,” YouTube stated.

Since this came out, Ghanaians slammed Mr Drew for copying a song.

However, in a statement, Mr Drew’s record label, Highly Spiritual Music has come out to provide some context as to what happened.

According to the record label it always indicated that ‘Eat’ was a cover of Rotimi’s song.

“The song was a cover version a remake or revival of the original performance and on every occasion our artiste credited the originator Rotimi,” CEO Of Highly Spiritual Music, Kaywa said in a statement.

The label blamed miss-communication between their digital publisher and Rotimi’s music label for the misunderstanding.

“Moreover, the label is in talks with the rightful outfit and Mr Drew is in a friendly conversation with Rotimi,” the statement added.

Press statement from Highly Spiritual Music

Maybe, fans will soon be able to enjoy the song on YouTube again.
