For a very very long time, I believed that my dry skin will be the one to start the ageing process on my face. I had even braced myself for it… the inevitable. It made perfect sense especially when I observed most of the older generation around me who had dry skin. They all had very pronounced wrinkles especially around the eyes and forehead.
This was before I started taking care of my skin and started reading more and understanding what really having a dry skin means and how to take care of it.
Dry skin being a cause of wrinkles is a myth that has found its way into our lives and has been deeply rooted in most of our minds. The truth of the matter is that having a dry skin has nothing to do with the wrinkles you’re having or will have in future. Dry skin just looks more wrinkles because it’s dry and it creates that illusion that the “wrinkles” on your face are because your skin is dry.
People with combination or oily skin seem to not have a lot of wrinkles because they have their own moisturizer in their skin. When skin is dry, it exaggerated the appearance of whatever wrinkles you may have. This is one of the reasons why you absolutely need to moisturize often.
Some causes of wrinkles apart from ageing are Sub exposure, smoking and genetics among others. You can read all about those here.
You can prevent wrinkles by eating certain foods which will be elaborated on in the coming week, using an anti-wrinkle moisturizer for dry skin and using sunscreen.
