The Students Representative Council president at the University of Ghana, Isaac Agyemang, has been found guilty on two grounds of impeachment by the council’s Judicial Board on Friday, May 22.

The Board, presided over by Justice Blessing Otchere Darko Adutwumwaa and comprising of Justices Isaac Arko Inkum, Rachael Ampofo, Barbara Adjei and Eunice Ohene-Darko in a ruling resolved that President had on two occasions breached certain provisions of the SRC constitution which made him liable for impeachment.

The board upon careful deliberations decided that the SRC President was guilty of having breached Article 51(1) which mandates the president to cause and present the semester budget for every academic year before the General Assembly at the beginning of each semester.

In addition, the court affirmed that the President may be up for impeachment as alleged by the petitioners for ‘negligent in the discharge of his duties’ according to article 23(1)(e).

The SRC president, at a General Assembly sitting at the beginning of the semester presented an Income Statement which was characterized by some irregularities and for which reason, the GA asked him to account for some monies spent.

The budget statement of the SRC indicated that the house had approved an amount of GH¢ 365,452 from the SRC dues to cater for expenses of the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.

However, the Income Statement presented to the General Assembly on 7th February showed that GH¢ 431,590 had been withdrawn from the dues indicating an excess of GH¢ 66,138 spent.
