This year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration in Ghana will be held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Muslims in Ghana, usually gather at the Black Star Square every year to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr in prayer.
However, due to the ban on social gathering, the 2020 Eid-ul-Fitr celebration prayers will be held on national television (GTV) on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at 9:00 am.
This information was disclosed by the Ministry of Information.
“Following the COVID-19 preventive restrictions on social gathering, a virtual EID-UL-FITR celebration prayer will be led by the Eminent National Chief Imam supported by the Muslim leaders at the Ghana Broadcasting corporation house on Sunday 24th May 2020 at 9:00 am prompt,” the Ministry stated.
“His Excellency the president of the Republic of Ghana supported by the vice president will use the occasion to address muslims country wide.”
The Ministry of Information also advised all Muslims in Ghana to celebrate the 2020 Eid-ul-Fitr with families at home by following the National Chief Imam on state television
“Accordingly all Muslims in the country are advised to celebrate the 2020 EID-UL-FITR with families at home by following the National Chief Imam on state television. We wish to take this opportunity to wish Muslims in Ghana and beyond a happy COVID-19 EIDUL-FITR 2020 celebration.”
