Information Minister Clarifies Reports On Ghana Receiving Madagascar’s COVID-19 Cure

Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has clarified reports suggesting that Ghana has received some of Madagascar’s highly publicised COVID-19 herbal remedy.

An update of a Facebook live Q&A session which the Minister engaged in indicated that Ghana had received the herbal cure and was testing it for efficacy.

The update was posted on the Twitter page of the Ministry of Information on May 19, 2020.

However, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at the COVID-19 media briefing on Thursday, May 20, 2020, stated that Ghana has not received the herbal remedy yet. He indicated that Ghana has reached out to Madagascar for the cure.

He added that when the government eventually receives the drug, it will be tested by the Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Centre for Plant Medicine Research for recommendations.

Ghana’s coronavirus cases

The Ghana Health Service in its latest update indicated that the country’s total coronavirus cases have increased to 6,269 after 173 new cases were recorded. The death toll still remains at 31, with the total recovery cases rising to 1,898.

The Ghana Health Service also indicated that Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western and Central are the only regions to record an increase in the number of cases in recent days.
