Private Joseph Hammond has completed Day 1 of his 14 miles in 7 days walk to raise funds to help countries in Africa fight the Coronavirus.
Private Joseph Hammond a 95year old Second World War veteran pledged to walk 14 miles in 7 days to raise over GH₵3 Million($ 600,000/£500,000) for African Countries who are part of the commonwealth to fight the coronavirus.
Out of £500,000, an amount of £824 (GH₵5,699.03) has so far been raised according to JustGiving.com.
After completing his 2miles walk across some principal streets of Accra, Private Hammond said “Glory to the Lord. I feel perfect and everything is nice. I’m still very strong and I can walk again but because we have scheduled this thing for seven days, I will be doing it until I conclude the whole program.“
He also urged Ghanaians and everyone to donate, “I see many people donating and I’m asking everybody for your little bit. Little water makes a mighty ocean so all of you must endeavor to do it. I’m doing this thing specially for the whole of Africa. So please, do your best to donate and continue donating so that everything will be successful.“
