Ghana’s former physical coach, Herve Renard has said Black Star’s top scorer Asamoah Gyan could have had a better career if he focused on training harder.

Herve Renard was the physical coach of the Black Stars when Ghana hosted the 2008 African Cup of Nations, which the country placed third.

In an interview with TV3’s Juliet Bawuah, Renard stated that Asamoah Gyan was supposed to have a better career, but he was lazy.

“In training, he was lazy. He only likes the games. But he was the most important player but I know him and he didn’t like the training, he only likes the competition, the games,” Herve Renard said.

Herve Renard, however, praised Gyan for being an amazing player and a very good goalscorer.

“The quality of Asamoah Gyan was amazing,” he added.

Renard, who is 51-years-old, is a two-time AFCON winning coach. He won the AFCON title with Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire in 2012 and 2015 respectively. His 2015 Cote d’Ivoire AFCON winning team beat Ghana on penalties in the finals to lift the trophy.
