Ghanaians do this a lot. Once a brand has been around for a long time, everything other product that is similar will be called by this brand name. Even when the product is by a different brand.

Toothpaste is toothpaste except to Ghanaians, every toothpaste is pepsodent. Someone will go to the shop to buy pepsodent and when it’s given to them they refuse it saying they want the red one (closeup) or choose a different type of toothpaste all together.
