Kobby Spiky Nkrumah as a kid growing up always loved stuff related to technology. He had ambitions of taking up a career in the world of tech. In fact, he aspired to be a geek!
His dad was in full support of his career path but his mom thought otherwise. Spiky’s mom wanted him to be a journalist, so he ended up at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, studying to become a journalist… “but I wished I studied Computer Science/Robotics instead,” Spiky said in an interview with Kuulpeeps.
Spiky just couldn’t give up his tech dream. After his studies at GIJ, he took some tech/IT courses but dropped out because he felt he could learn and do what he loves on his own.
“…as a journalist, I was rather fixing stuff than what I was trained for”
He started working as a journalist at the Multimedia group but he didn’t enjoy what he was doing. He eventually spent most of his time doing tech-related stuff.
His bosses realised that he did better in tech than journalism so they moved him to the IT department. After years of hardwork at the IT department, coupled with generating some great ideas and initiatives, he was made Creative Director of Digital Media for the Multimedia Group.
He currently hosts a tech show on radio (Joy FM) called the Geek Squad. He’s also the host of Tech Trends and Tech Talk on Joy News.
“Failure or losing my hearing are my biggest fears”.
Kwabena Nkrumah considers failure as his biggest fear. He always wants to succeed wherever he finds himself and failure is the last thing he thinks about.
