The Ministry of Youth and Sports has revealed the effect coronavirus has had on sports in Ghana.
According to Perry Okudzeto, the Deputy Sports Minister, construction of multipurpose sports centres can’t be completed in July as planned because the workers are not at post anymore due to the pandemic.
He further added that the pandemic has distorted Ghana’s preparations for the 2023 African Games.
“Coronavirus has affected us greatly in our preparations for the 2023 African games. It has prevented us from doing certain things, we are still pushing and finding ways to push the contractors to finish some of the projects and the renovation works,” he said.
He, however, stated that the Ministry has been engaging the various federations and associations since the outbreak of coronavirus to find a way forward.
He also added that Isaac Asiamah, the Minister of Sports, has presented a proposal to the president, which is under consideration.
