Yesterday reports indicated that the Obuasi township in the Ashanti Region has recorded 272 cases of the Coronavirus disease, making it a hotspot for the disease.
The Ashanti Region, as of Monday, May 11, recorded 307 new cases, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 662.
The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, who made this known on Tuesday at a press briefing in Accra said the affected areas in Obuasi are the Central Market, Wawase and Asonkore.
However residents of the Obuasi township are unhappy with the way the media is reporting the Obuasi cases.
On Twitter some believe the media hasn’t been fair to Obuasi.
Twitter user Obuasi Gold didn’t understand why Obuasi east and West were combined in the report. “With Kumasi, Kwadaso, Suame and Oforikrom are all parts of Kumasi but Obuasi East and West have been combined. The reports haven’t been fair to Obuasi.”
Another user @at0mb_0fficial wants the media to mention the exact location and stop reporting about the whole town being a hotspot.
Below are some comments in relation to Obuasi being a coronavirus hotspot.
