Augustine Agyei-Mensah is a Nurse who worked with patients with learning disabilities at Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation (NHFT).  Augustine Agyei-Mensah died following treatment for Coronavirus.

He left behind his four children and a wife.

The family of Augustine said he was a caring husband and loving father to his four children. “We are devastated by his loss. He was a dedicated, hard-working and proud NHS worker who will be missed by all who knew him.”

Augustine was a Ghanaian national who was said to have had much pride in his Ghanaian heritage. Fellow workers described him as a ‘highly-regarded team member’ who had worked at NHFT since 2014.

After his death, colleague health workers held a two minute silence on the 7th of May and a book of condolence has been opened in tribute to him.

A fundraiser “Just Giving” has been established by his colleagues to support Augustine’s family who are devastated about his passing.

Augustine qualified in 2013 from the University of Hertfordshire, with a dual Learning Disability Nurse and Social Work degree. In his career, Augustine worked closely with NHFT’s speech and language therapist and psychology colleagues to support service users with a variety of complex cognitive and sensory needs.

A statement from the trust said Augustine – known at work as Gus – always recognized that as a clinician he had an opportunity to support service users in making positive changes.

Angela Hillery, Chief Executive, said: “Our hearts break today for Augustine’s wife and young family. We remain committed to supporting them through this time.

“Augustine epitomized what we stand for here at NHFT. He was committed to making a difference and giving people a second chance.

“Augustine cared for some of the most vulnerable in our society; lives have been transformed because of him.”

Prior to commencing his clinical training, Augustine worked in customer services for Southwest Trains from 2003 to 2007.

Augustine becomes the third Ghanaian Health Worker living in the UK who has died to the virus.
