Nineteen years ago, Ghana experienced a disaster that resulted in the death of a lot of Ghanaians.
The May 9 Stadium disaster which has been described by many as the saddest day in Ghana’s Sports history, claimed the lives of about 127 football fans at the Accra Sports Stadium after a stampede occurred during a Premier League match between two of Ghana’s biggest clubs; Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2001.
The chaos at the Accra Sports Stadium was started by some Asante Kotoko fans who were unhappy with the final results.
Kotoko lost 2-1 to Hearts of Oak.
