Barimah Kwaku Debrah (Cymple) is proof that what you study in school might not really be what will feed you in real life.
After acquiring good grades studying Science at Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), one would think that Cymple would study a Science related course in the University but he decided to switch things up and study Business Administration instead.
Proving to himself and his mates that he is smart, he managed to keep his head above water for 4 years in the Unversity, studying a course he had no background in.
Referring to his switch from Business to Fashion, Cymple had this to say. “I’ve been doing Fashion since JHS 3. There wasn’t really any transition for me. My brother did Visual Art so I used to help him make clothes. I was printing T-Shirts and helping him out with his numerous projects. I actually started sewing in SHS 1.”
He met someone at Moni3 studios in SHS who kept helping him and pushing him to be better. The person later introduced him to Prince Dovlo, a music video director, who in turn introduced him to the whole concept of styling.
His first styling gig was with Obrafour and Manifest (huuggee). “That was the first time I actually sewed. This gig was huge for me as a beginner and I was doing it alone with no external help. They sent me a mood board and that was it. That was my first time holding a needle and thread to sew and I did hand stitches for about 25 people” he said.
It has been an upward climb from there and his touch is almost in every video you see on your screens.
