If you, like many Ghanaians, have come across an audio advising you to use camphor or mothballs to treat coronavirus – please ignore.

That is because, this could actually be bad for your health, according to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

In a statement, the FDA warned Ghanaians to ignore the said audio that urged Ghanaians to inhale vapour produced by camphor dissolved in hot water.

This is because “the vapor produced by captor in this way elicits a toxic gas which should not be inhaled under any circumstances,” the FDA said.

“When the vapor produced is inhaled, the body breaks it down into other chemicals that react with cells in the body and damage tissues,” the statement added.

“This can cause skin and eye irritation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea,” the FDA explained.

Stay safe, guys.
