It makes sense to set an alarm before you go to sleep so that you can get to work early in the morning. However, research from the National Institute of Industrial Health in Japan suggests that waking up to a jolting noise can be bad for your heart.

Not only can it increase your blood pressure, but it also adds to stress levels because it gets your adrenaline pumping. (Source: ABC News ).

The solution therefore, is to try to wake up naturally using natural light. If you have to wake up before the sun comes out, it might be good to start developing some good sleep habits like going to bed early.

Apps like Timely and Doubletwist Alarm Clock for Android are programmed to wake you more gently, if you can’t do without an alarm. Some great iOS options with the same benefits are Wake and Rise.
