Feeling too proud to apologize at work can be costly. It can ruin good coworker relationships and, in the worst-case scenario, it can cost you your job. However, that doesn’t mean that every word out of your mouth should be an apology. That’s an easy way to present yourself as weak and indecisive. Constantly apologizing can cause you to lose the respect of your colleagues. So, it’s a good idea to know when to apologize and when not to. Here are some of the times you should not apologize at work.

When You Didn’t Do Anything Wrong

Saying sorry shouldn’t just become a part of your day-to-day language. Saying meaningless “sorry”s when you have to go to the washroom or when you express a diverging opinion is unnecessary. It also diminishes any real apologies that you give in future.
