President Akufo Addo in an address to the country to update Ghanaians on government’s actions to fight coronavirus announced relief packages.
Among the packages was a subsidy on electricity to most Ghanaians. Lifeline consumers who are consuming 50kwh a month will pay nothing for April, May and June while anybody above that mark will receive a 50 per cent subsidy with their March bill as the bench mark.
As the month of April is ending, the Electricity company of Ghana is putting measures in place to ensure that Ghanaians do enjoy the relief package.
As a result, they have directed all prepaid consumers to swipe or insert their cards before going to the vendor to purchase electricity.
“This is to enable the ECG to gather accurate consumption data to ensure a smooth implementation of the Government of Ghana COVID-19 Electricity Relief,” an ECG statement said.
