President Akufo-Addo in his speech yesterday, 19th April 2020 addressing the nation on the update of the Coronavirus, encouraged bereaved families to conduct private burials of their loved ones and hold the final funeral rites later.

The President said, although it may be very difficult for the bereaved families, it is also very important that the families adhere to this directive to decongest the morgues across the country as they are becoming full due to the ban on public or social gathering.

Last week we reported some morgues threatening to close down due to decongestion. The President reiterated that, “The morgues in the country are becoming full, and will, in themselves, soon pose a public health hazard. So, let us act quickly on this.”

The President also urged Ghanaians to adhere to social distancing and limit of number on social gathering,“As difficult as it may be, I encourage all bereaved persons to conduct private burials of their loved ones, but ensure that the twenty-five (25) person limit is not breached.”

President Akufo Addo has lifted the partial lockdown protocols he placed on parts of the country.

As part of measures to curb the spread of the virus, President Akufo Addo placed a partial lockdown on Accra, Kasoa and Kumasi.

Ghana currently has 1,042 confirmed cases of coronavirus infections.
