In as much as we’re trying to keep safe during these quarantine times, we can not ignore the fact that injuries are possible. Especially in these quarantine times when everyone is trying to kill boredom by doing crazy things like climbing heights, skating on a tiled floor barefooted (which is actually really nice😂), dancing in heels (like myself 😂) and cooking (especially for those who can’t cook but still want to look like chefs and will end up poisoning themselves 😂).
These actions can go wrong in one way or the other and may cause injuries. There is the need, therefore, to know how to apply first aid.
You must bear in mind that the goal of first aid is to Preserve life, Prevent further injures and to Promote recovery. The 3 P(s). And so whatever action you take whiles administering first aid, you must keep this in mind.
Here are some tips on how to apply first aid:
To treat cuts and wounds, apply gentle pressure, disinfect the area and bandage it up.
To treat burns, cover the wound with clean lose cloth to prevent infection. For the treatment of burns, the burn type and its severity will determine the approach to use.
For First-Degree Burns (Affecting Top Layer of Skin) Cool Burn. Hold burned skin under cool (not cold) running water or immerse in cool water until the pain subsides. Use compresses if running water isn’t available. Protect Burn. Cover with a sterile, non-adhesive bandage or clean cloth.
If the burn is severe there isn’t much to do than to seek medical assistance. So maybe you should think twice before doing anything that would harm you.
To treat fractures(for my people dancing in heels and those skating on the tiled floor), stop any bleeding if there is any and keep the fractured area stable and immobilized. Apply a cold pack to the area and call for professional help.
In the case where people go unconscious or stop breathing, the only thing to do is to perform a CPR, which I know the guys will find very mandated to do when a female is unconscious 😂
For deep wounds, apply pressure and cover the wound with a clean or sterile lose material to prevent infection. Do not take out any object that is lodged in the wound or apply ointments, you’re not a surgeon. You should seek medical attention ASAP!
Please note that first aid is to preserve life but it’s not the final treatment and so whichever approach you take in applying first aid, seek medical attention as soon as possible. And remember to keep yourself safe before anyone or anything else.
Do not do anything that will put you and others at risk. Be safe. See you soon peeps.
