Covid-19: Trucks Of Food Arrive In Kumasi

Trucks of dry food, mainly rice, have arrived in Kumasi to be distributed to vulnerable communities struggling to obtain food under the partial lockdown.

The food items were handed over to faith-based organizations and the various MMDCEs and DCEs to spearhead the distribution.

Deputy Gender Minister Freda Prempeh said the dry food will be repackaged into smaller bags for household distribution.

She explained that other vulnerable groups like head porters and homeless groups will be fed daily until the partial lockdown is over.

The President Nana Akufo-Addo on Sunday 5th April,2020 when he addressed the nation to update Ghanaians on some measures being taken by the government in the fight of the pandemic announced that Government will begin the distribution of free meals to over 400,000 Ghanaians in locked-down areas amidst the COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana

In his address, Nana Akufo-Addo admitted the hardship the situation has brought on the majority of Ghanaians adding that there was however the need for the provision of “food packages and hot meals” to enable poor households to minimize their vulnerability.
