Sanitation Minister Entreats Judicious Use Of Water During Free Supply Period

Ghanaians have been asked to use water wisely during the 3-month free water supply period.

On, April 5, 2020, President Akufo-Addo during a Covid-19 address to the nation announced that every Ghanaian is going to enjoy free water supply for the next three months (April, May, June). This directive by the President was to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to water to aid in handwashing.

Following this directive by the President, Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has entreated Ghanaians against overconsumption and misuse of water.

She made this plea during a Covid-19 media briefing today [April 7, 2020].

She also made mention of videos making rounds on social media of people misusing water because of the President’s directive and asked them to desist from such acts.

Cecilia Abena Dapaah informed that during the 3-month period, water bills will be sent to consumers via text. The bills will indicate the amount of water that households consume and it will also indicate that the government has absorbed the bills.

The Sanitation Minister also asked that all leakages and damaged pipelines should be reported to the Ghana Water Company.
