President Akufo Addo Condemns Sharing Of Fake ‘Military Brutality’ Videos

President Akufo Addo

President Akufo Addo has condemned the sharing of old videos to depict the seeming brutality of Ghanaian soldiers who are enforcing the lockdown protocols in parts of the country.

In an address to the nation, President Akufo Addo noted that most of the videos that have gone viral on social media were either old videos or videos of foreign military personnel.

Though he accepted that some of the security personnel have used excessive force in some circumstances to enforce the lockdown procedures meant to curb the spread of coronavirus, he was not amused by the attempt of some to sow discord between civilians and security officials.

The President said sharing of those fake videos was aimed at creating “discontent and undermine the trust of members of the public in the security agencies.”

He said security officials are investigating the origins of the fake videos.

The Ministery of Information started fact-checking some of the videos last week.
