Gov’t Deploys Information Contact Centre To Provide Details On COVID-19

The Government of Ghana has deployed a national information contact centre to facilitate the provision of information on COVID-19 and related matters.

Speaking at a COVID-19 Press Briefing on April 1, 2020, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah announced 311 as the national information contact centre number.

According to the minister, the national information contact centre number, 311, has been created to aid the already existing national emergency contact number 112, which is used to recieve calls from people who have developed symptoms and want to report to be tested.

He further clarified that the 311 national emergency contact number is to facilitate more clarity in information flow to citizens on COVID-19 and related matters.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also stated other functions of the National Information Contact Centre.

The centre is to:

  • Provide information to the general public on the COVID-19, provide the information on clarifications of the imposition of restrictions.
  • Receive feedback from medical facilities that have still not received Personal Protected Equipment (PPEs)
  • Receive feedback from citizens on the observation of restrictions in local communities.

The Minister of Information also announced a WhatsApp Interface which is also created to help in providing information on COVID-19. The number to the interface is 0555311311
