6 years ago today, one of the best hip hop songs in Ghana was released, making way for what will become the greatest remix we have ever heard in Ghana.
After dropping Kpokpo body which topped charts and went viral, Dee Money blessed us with the hip-hop track, Finish Line and years down the line, we still dey jam to it!!!
The song, produced by Gafacci featured two of the biggest and the baddest in the hip-hop game at the time: JTown and Sarkodie.
J Town owned the hook on Finish Line like the Hip-hop king he was (Anyone who follows GH Hip-hop knows JTown was one of the bosses back then!!!) and Sarkodie who had just started retiring the “to ma hunnies on the block” version of himself (y’ all know what we mean right?) came through with straightforward boss bars.
Dee Money was a young rap prodigy and he was killing it! The video for the song was an awesome complement to the song (straight out of some Rick Ross type of video charle). The production was admirable as well…no lies we still lose it when that switch in the beat towards the end of the song comes in.
Finish Line hit hard and when he added a remix some months later… some of us went ballistic!!!! Who knew there could be a better version????
Recording the remix with Paedae, IcePrince, Reminisce, M.anifest and J Town was one of the best things ever! Ice Prince and Manifest had the best verses hands down just because we can’t say Dee Money killed his own track (cos he did, flawlessly!!!)
Dee Money knew hip-hop and was doing hip-hop and honestly, it’s been a while since we got something this good. (No vex, All Black is right up there with our favourites).
Hip Hop in GH has slowed down no doubt but we are grateful for great songs like this that we can go back to and be proud of.
