Government Appointees Donate 50% Of Their Three Months Salary To Coronavirus Fund

The men and women who were appointed by President Akufo-Addo to serve him in government have decided to join the fundraising aimed at fighting against the spread of coronavirus.

A Facebook post, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin indicated that high ranking members of staff in government will give up 50 per cent of their monthly salaries. Some will do so for two months others for three months.

The donations will go to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund that was set up by President Akufo-Addo.

Those donating 50% of their three months salaries to the fund include “all Ministers of State, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, the deputy Chiefs of Staff, Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Cabinet, Presidential Staffers and Presidential Aides at the Presidency.”

“All Deputy Ministers have also agreed to donate fifty per cent (50%) of their salaries for the next two month,” he wrote.

The donations will apply to salaries earned between April and June.

“As a result, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has notified the Controller and Accountant General to effect these deductions at source for the period, and transfer the accrued monies into the Fund,” Eugene Arhin said.

President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia have already pledged to donate all their 3 months salary to the fund.
