Coronavirus: Gov’t Announces Special Life Insurance Covers For Frontline Staff

The Ministry of Health has announced a special life insurance cover for the 10,000 health personnel and allied professionals who are working to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang in a letter to all heads of the health agencies, announced that the frontline staff involved in the COVID-19 response have been insured under benefits which include Group life, Critical illness and Total-Temporal Disability-All Causes.

“As a health professional and allied professionals at the frontline of the COVID 19 response, I seize the opportunity to thank you and your families sincerely for the sacrifice to this national challenge.”

“The Gormvernnet of Ghana would like to communicate to the Heads of Agencies that the frontline staff involved in the response have been insured under the following cover,” the letter read.

For the Group Life cover, a sum of GHC350,000 per life has been assured, while GHC25,000 per life has been assured for the Critical illness cover; GHC10,000 per life for Total Temporal Disability-All Causes and a Total Premium of GHC10,309,919.94.

“Please note that the Allied Professionals include all men and women who have been deployed to respond to COVID-19,” the letter stated.

The Health Minister also urged all head of agencies to “bring this to the attention of all staff deployed and please ensure the appropriate documentation of the process which is strategic for the next steps.”
