Staying at home gets very old very quickly, and as we are practising social distancing during this period, life can get quite boring at home. There’s no word yet on when school does resume, so in the meantime, here are a couple of suggestions on how you could spend this break
Covid-19 isn’t going to be around forever. And when it does clear up, you’ll definitely want to look your best for the vacations that follow. Since gyms are closed down, you’ll have to make do with callisthenics. There are a lot of free apps that will help you create your perfect summer body.
Summer internships are very important, but unfortunately, there’s never enough spots to go around. While sending in an early email may not guarantee you a slot at your dream company, it will definitely boost your chances. Your name will be a familiar one when the time actually comes, giving you an edge over other candidates. Plus lots of people are either working from home or taking a break. They’re more likely to see your email and respond during this period
Update your CV
If you don’t have one yet, you could start work on building an impressive one during this break. This is especially important for final years, but it’s never too early to make one or spec yours up a bit more. Did you help in organising during hall weeks? Were you active in student associations? All that contributes to making your cv more attractive. It’s always great to have an up to date cv. You never know when you might need to submit one for an opportunity.
Take online courses
If there was ever any new skill you wanted to learn, but couldn’t because of school work. Make the time for that. Whether it’s learning an instrument or a course somewhat unrelated to your programme of study. Now’s the time to work on that. YouTube is your best friend here. Or if you’re interested in something more specialised, there’s a wealth of courses available on the Internet and they’re just a Google search away
One of the most important directives during this period was to stay at home as much as possible. This can get very tedious, but there’s a lot of fun to be had by yourself at home and all you’ll need is a smartphone. (no, I’m not talking about porn) There’s a lot of Internet challenges going around right now and participating is as easy as recording yourself with your camera and uploading to your preferred social media. It’s a great way to get more followers and make new friends while at home.
Get a lot of rest too. School will start back in full force soon and catching up will be a very hectic task. Rest now, catch up on previous school work and psych yourself for the rest of the semester.
Remember to wash your hands and stay indoors. Be safe!
