Coronavirus: Ghana Medical Association Calls For Immediate Lockdown Of Ghana

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has joined calls for an immediate Coronavirus lockdown of Ghana. This statement comes after the cases of Coronavirus in Ghana increased.

In a press release sighted by, the Press Statement was signed by GMA President Dr. Frank Ankobea and GMA General Secretary Dr. Justice Yankson.

The GMA calls on every Ghanaian to join hands in this day of Prayer and Fasting to intercede for the nation. “The Ghana Medical Association has observed with grave concern the increasing trend of confirmed cases for COVID-19 in Ghana and our national response to this pandemic. On this day of national prayer and fasting, we call on all Ghanaians to keep this sacred and intercede for the nation.” the statement said.

The Ghana Medical Association has been at the forefront fighting the spread of the virus. Some doctors who have retired have been called out of retirement to help fight.

The GMA further advised in the statement, “The GMA being fully conscious of the threat posed by this pandemic, the disturbing trend of community spread and the obvious inadequate of capacity (logistic and human resource) of the nation’s health system to deal with increased numbers of COVID-19 infection especially in the severe to critical cases, call on His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana to declare a Nationwide Lockdown with the exception of essential services with immediate effect”

Ghana now has 68 coronavirus cases, according to an update from the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

There have been 15 more cases have been confirmed since the last cases were announced less than 24 hours ago with three persons reported dead.
