In a crisis moment like this, a lot of fake news have been making rounds.

One of such claims is that the University of Ghana Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (UG-NMIMR) is keeping coronavirus patients on admission at its premises to treat them.

This has forced Noguchi to release a statement debunking such claims.

“The UG-NMIMR respectfully requests the general public to disregard stories on social media and states categorically THAT the Institute is NOT a COVID-19 treatment centre with patients on admission,” the statement signed by Administrator of the facility read.

“All results for COVID-19 testing carried out by the Institute are regularly released by the Ghana Health Service/Ministry of Health which is the authentic data source on COVID-19 in Ghana,” it added.

“The Institute wishes to assure all of its dedication to top quality protocols for accurate reporting in support of Ghana’s response to COVID-19,” it said.

The University of Ghana Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (UG-NMIMR) is an Internationally renowned centre of excellence for medical research striving to safeguard the health of the people of Ghana.
