The last time I downloaded an instrument on my phone, I deleted it in about 30 minutes. It was laggy, and it didn’t really feel like I was making the sounds. I mean there’s also the fact that I didn’t know the first thing about playing an instrument. That was over six years ago. In writing this article, I re-explored mobile instrument apps. And I have to say, these things are good. Here’s a list of some apps that allow you to play instruments on your phone with no latency. They also teach you how!
Walk band is probably the best app on this list in terms of functions available to you. However, you should only get this app if you already kind of know what you’re doing. It’s great for practice, and also if you’re seasoned and just want something to play on, when you’re on the move. It has a lot of modes. It has a piano keyboard, different guitar modes, a drum pad and a beat machine mode. It allows you to record as you play, and then export the result. You can also put in your voice.
Perfect Piano really brings it with the teaching. You can learn from thousands of music scores in the app. Literally just pick one. It also has these guides as you play. There are different modes for the guide so that you can find the one that works best for you. In addition, you can play the piano with other players from all over the world. I’ve always found piano duets to be incredible. You can do that from your room. You are also able to chat with other players in the app. It’s a great app all around.
Hip Hop Pads
Every time you see Kanye with some drum pads, you know he is about to make some magic. Now you can do that too. Hip Hop Pads has 90 sounds built-in so that you can find the combinations that you want. You can even experiment a bit. It has 6 complete rap samples to learn from. And it comes with lessons. Record and export your beats from the app.
Real Guitar/Real Bass/Real Drums By Kolb Apps
This is actually a series of apps by Kolb Apps. You get the one you want depending on which instrument you want to play. One cool thing about the Real set of instruments is that they allow you to play along to some music. You can find some loops in the up or put in a song and play along in real-time.
Keep yourself busy during this self-quarantine. Make some noise, but you know, with headphones on.
