Record A Song From Home While You’re Self Quarantined

It’s been a week or two since some of us have been home. People have been posting the craziest things on the internet. You can tell that it’s only a matter of time until the boredom completely takes over. Here are some things you can do to challenge yourself. You can record a song. Here’s how to go about it.

Get Some Software

Okay, the first thing that you are going to need is a Digital Audio Workstation. This is just fancy for an application that is going to handle everything as you record. Macs come with Garageband pre-installed. However, if you’re on windows you can get Audacity, which is completely free. Tracktion is also a great option whether you’re on Windows or using a Mac.

Get A Dope Beat

Obviously, if you’re going to be laying some fire, you’re going to need a beat. The type of beat depends completely on you and what your style is. Luckily, there are near unlimited choices of beat to choose from on SoundCloud. You cannot use a beat you found on SoundCloud commercially without the creator’s knowledge! That being said, this is how you can get the mp3 off of SoundCloud. You can go to mp3juices.cc and switch sources to just SoundCloud. Then you can search for the beat by name.

Get A Microphone

Here is where I put in a little disclaimer. You are only going to sound as good as the equipment that you are using. If you have a regular pair of microphone earphones, you can still go ahead and record your song. The only thing is that you won’t have the best sounding track ever made. Jumia has some pretty affordable USB Microphones. You can get a very decent output if you have some headphones with a dedicated microphone. Gaming headsets will work amazing.

Get Recording

Okay, that’s it. Now, go make some music. Import your SoundCloud mp3 into your software. Then, connect your microphone and record. I want to make sure that the process doesn’t come off as oversimplified. Most Digital Audio Workstations will require you to learn the software. That’s the hardest part. Once you do that, you’re ready to go. Of course, there are numerous Software tutorials on YouTube.

Whatever you make, share with your friends. However, you should not upload a song that contains beats made by other people who don’t know that it’s being used this way. That’s just a dick move. If you do create something you really want to share, though, get in touch with the producer of whatever it is that you used.
