The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been postponed. In a memo sent from the Head Registrars Headquarters in Accra, it stated that both the Timetable and the examination have been postponed until further notice.
An excerpt from the memo states, “The negative impact of the novel and deadly COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent protocols put in place by governments of member countries to prevent the spread of the disease have serious implications for the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020 as agreed by the National Offices.”
The memo continues to state that ” The Registrar hereby directs that,
- the WASSCE (SC) 2020 Timetable be suspended until further notice,
- the conduct of WASSCE (SC) 2020 be put on hold until further notice,
- directives (1) and (2) will be reviewed when the health situation improves.”
This information comes after the Teachers Union of Ghana together with the National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and its affiliates pleaded with President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to consider the postponement of the upcoming final exams for both the Junior and Senior High Schools.
Student’s, however, are advised to adhere to all preventive measures in order not to contract the virus.
