After announcing a layout update for its desktop browser version earlier last year during its F8 developer’s conference, Facebook has now finally released it, bringing the long-awaited dark mode as well.
Dark mode has been available for some time now on its mobile version as well as various affiliated apps including Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, but it’s the first time it’s coming to desktop browser users.
To change to dark mode, you simply have to toggle its setting on the Settings drop-down menu. Aside from the new darkened colour scheme, the update brings along a serious of changes such as a cleaner, streamlined newsfeed as well as dedicated tabs for Facebook Watch, Marketplace, Groups, and Gaming in the top centre menu.
Facebook has said that most accounts will now be able to access the new layout via the banner at the top of the page, asking if you’d like to try “New Facebook.” For now, users who prefer the old version can still change back to “Classic Facebook,” but the refreshed layout will become default later in the year.
